You'll hear many ardent photographers tell you that digital manipulation of any image should be minimised (if not avoided), and that the true art of photography lies in being able to capture the image in camera. 

I believe that the true art of photography lies in the appeal and effectiveness of the final image, but at the same time, I feel that the best images start with a good capture in camera.  Most of the work should be done there - I'd rather spend my time underwater with the camera than sitting in front of a computer working on the images.  So, here are some brief bits and pieces on how to get quick and effective results in the "digital darkroom".
